I am deeply touched to have received, in person, the DRI Canada (Disaster Recovery Institute) Contributor of the Year Award, during the Symposium held on November 20 in Gatineau, with participants from across the country.
Although the official announcement was made in September 2025, holding this award in my hands at the heart of the community that has accompanied me for so many years was an emotional moment. This award holds special significance for me because it represents the recognition of my peers.
Professionals I admire, who inspire me, and with whom I share the same commitment to resilience, to protecting organizations, and to preparing for disruptions that can affect any type of operation. Receiving this distinction means welcoming, with humility, the trust and esteem of people I hold in deep respect.
This event also gave me the opportunity to reconnect with many familiar faces from our broader community people we may not work with every day, but with whom we share rich conversations, a common mission, and a deep mutual respect. More than acquaintances, they are partners in reflection who enrich our discipline and make this field stimulating and deeply human.
I also had the privilege of attending the closing keynote delivered by Ms. Chantal Hébert, a journalist with a remarkable career. She offered a clear and insightful analysis of the state of Canadian politics, the global context of uncertainty, and the widening divide between Canada and the United States observations that resonate directly with the challenges we address in organizational resilience. An inspiring moment that perfectly concluded the day.
I was also pleased to support the event as a sponsor, a meaningful way for me to give back to a community that has contributed so much to my career.
Thank you to DRI Canada (Disaster Recovery Institute) for this distinction, which means a great deal to me.
Thank you as well to Perry Ruehlen and Alexander Landry for the warm and thoughtful introduction delivered before the award presentation.
And thank you to all those across the country who work every day to strengthen the resilience of their organizations.
I am honoured, grateful, and more motivated than ever to continue advancing our discipline.
Benoit Racette
